Shawn Plante is running for Huron Kinloss Mayor

I’ve spent the last few days thinking about what a platform truly means. It’s easy to campaign on one or two “hot topics,” but the reality is that our community is made up of so many vital parts—our roads, our drains, our EMS services, and our fiscal health.
As a candidate for Mayor, I believe leadership means looking at the whole picture. We shouldn’t have to choose between fixing a road and supporting our seniors; we need a government that works for the betterment of everyone, all at once.
The only way to achieve that is through a fundamental change in how we operate. By focusing on a united community where we all work together, we can tackle every issue with a fresh perspective.
That is why I am proposing A New Direction for Huron-Kinloss: Because Your Voice Matters “New Direction” for Huron-Kinloss.
Huron-Kinloss is a community of hard-working families, dedicated farmers, and seniors who have built this township into what it is today. I’m running for Mayor because I believe we can build a more modern, transparent government that respects your time and your contribution.
Here is our “New Direction” plan:
Modern Transparency:
Whether you’re coming in from the barn late or heading home from the rink with the kids, you shouldn’t have to miss a Council meeting. we will implement video recordings so you can see the decisions being made on your own schedule. We will also share the “Why” behind every vote—ensuring the reasoning and data behind every decision are clear to everyone.
Accountability at Every Level:
Accountability starts with leadership. We will ensure that the elected Council is directly answerable to the residents for the direction of our township. Alongside this, we will develop a review process for our municipal staff—the people who maintain our roads and keep our facilities running—to highlight where they shine and provide mentoring where it’s needed. When we strive to excel together, the whole community wins.
Listening to Understand:
Governance shouldn’t just happen in a boardroom. I am committed to regular Town Halls across the township. Whether it’s a senior’s concern about accessibility or a resident’s question about local infrastructure, we will provide a “Follow-Through Promise”—clear, honest answers and consistent updates.
Process Equity:
We will perform “bylaw housekeeping” to simplify and modernize outdated rules. Our goal is to ensure a level playing field where the process is clear, consistent, and fair for every single resident, regardless of the project.
The Province and Federal government set the boundaries, but YOU set the direction. Let’s build a Huron-Kinloss that works for the farmer, the hockey mom, the retiree, and everyone in between.
What does a “New Direction” look like to you?
